We Don't Do Fall

So unless you are new here, which if you are, "Hello, thanks for stopping by, take off your shoes and stay for awhile." Um anyway, most of ya'll know I live in Central Florida, the house of the mouse. What? It's close enough. And as ya'll know we don't have the traditional change of seasons here. We have hurricane season, love bug season, tourist season, and summer. Or, not as hot, hot, hotter, and scorching.

So while the rest of the country is putting on sweat shirts and jeans for raking leaves in the crispy weather we are watching the weather channel for the next tropical storm. Since our weather changes are much more subtle... um, nonexistant we have to rely on different signs to alert us to the fact that it's autumn, at least in the rest of the country.

How to tell it's Fall in Florida.
  • The beginning of NCAA football. Go Gators!
  • Major chain store sale racks filled with tank tops and flip flops.
  • Migration of the Snow birds.
  • Vast improvement in the quality of tv programming... um, less reruns.
  • The short return of Sam Adams Oktoberfest to grocery store shelves.
  • Not breaking into a sweat to get the mail.
  • Box of crayons left in the car, all day, not melted.
  • Signs for fall craft festivals, and Oktoberfests.
  • A/C not on continously 24/7 (oh wait that's winter)

Lest you all think we are missing out on the wonder and beauty of autumn, I present you with my family's favorite fall activity. I made this slide show last year for family, and they laughed, a lot. And they still think we are missing out.

If you really want to read the fine print.

Now, tell me about your favorite fall traditions.

Very cute...I am right there with you with the exception that I am even FARTHER down south...so you are actually a Yankee to me. :)
My most favorite thing to do in the fall is go to NC. The mountains are beautiful. The air is crisp. Oh, so delightful.
If we can't do that, we just burn some pumpkin candles and put out all our orange, green and brown autumn stuff and get over it. :)

Well then, since I am from NE FL I must just seem like a snowbird to y'all.

Actually...we use this time of year to take advantage of the waterparks. No one wants to go swimming when the temps hit below 85 or so. We have actually been told we are nuts for having pool parties in October. Go figure.

It's much the same here in San Diego--only without the humidity!

Our biggest thing is finding a Halloween costume that works for the sweltering daytime school carnival and the cool Halloween night.

and now we can't be friends anymore *sob* since you root for those nasty gators.

I'll pretend I didn't read that and continue to like you anyway, OK?

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to live anywhere near where there would ever be a chance in hell it could snow. I love Florida, it's just different here is all.
Suz you're in a beach town right? So at least you get that ocean breeze.
Persnickty, I think North Florida is much different in terms of weather, somehow just that small change in location makes for more "seasonal" changes. And we like to go to the beach in the fall too, much less crowded.
Jenn our Halloween costumes need to be cool and rain proof, just in case.
Moo we can be friends except for one day a year. Hee hee!

Being a die hard NFL fan, I love FALL. My family grew up in Greenbay, WI area so there is only one thing to do...watch football. Probably why there is a pic of me (about 6 months old) all bundled up in a snow covered Lambeau Stadium.....baby cheesehead.

I am cautiously optimistic about the Buccaneers this year and have my cubicle at work decorated like a good little fan.

Twinkle already has her BUCS cheerleader outfit for Halloween.

The thing I love most about fall....being able to open the windows FINALLY. Airing out the house is a good thing and the crisp air is so invigorating.

I do wish we lived somewhere other than here. Somewhere there was a change in seasons, pretty trees. Hard to get into Christmas spirit when it is 80 degrees.

You must be south - I didn't see one kid in under armour and 14 sweatshirts, which would be considered a MILD October in our parts!!

I'm envious.
