Sunday Suggestions

Afternoon Thunderstorm Warnings, On the Cheap.
It's a two for one special.

This one is a favorite at our house. Sorry but I really don't know of an equivalent for mom's of boys, this one is pretty much for a house full of little girls. My girls and I love to have spa days. NO, I do not take my girls to have mani/pedis, are you new here? What will they have to look forward to before those fancy high school dances if we start shit like that now?

No, we have Mommy Spa. I have one of those foot baths, that you put hot water in, then plug in and it vibrates your little tootsies. Because kids have such tired achey feet ya know. That alone is entertainment as long as we agree ahead of time who gets the first turn.

Then we use smelly lotions, and paint finger and toe nails. Sometimes we get really fancy, as I have even gotten pretty good at drawing stars and stripes on blue and red toes. Those are always a hit during the summer. It just takes a cheap bottle of white nail polish, a tooth pick and a steady hand. Stripes are self explanatory, stars are made by putting a dot of polish and then dragging the tooth pick out to make 5 points.

If I am really inspired and they ask, we do hair too. This style lasts almost the whole week, if done tight. Yes that's with swimming and washing it. The best part is no crying over brushing out the inevitable tangles from the wind and water.
That's one of our rainy afternoon activities that is entirely supplied by things I already have in my house. How about you, done any fun cheap activities this summer you'd like to share? I'm always looking for suggestions, it's a long summer!

You are an absolute GENIUS. Wow, I'm totally jealous - will you do my toes & hair??

Let's see, fun & cheap activities. We cover the sidewalk from driveway to around the cul-de-sac with chalk masterpieces.

OH, and I made 'Pebble Poetry' with my students this year; I think I'll do it with the kids this summer - lots of fun little birthday & Christmas presents. I got bags of those flat-bottomed clear marble things (specific enough for you?) at the craft store along with a pot of Mod Podge (which will last you forever) and a strip of magnets (you can also cut apart all those free ones you get from dentists and vets and insurance agents). Cut out tiny pictures & words from magazines, Mod Podge them onto the marble things, glue a piece of magnet on and VOILA. Super cute artwork for your fridge. (Total cost about $12 for about 200 magnets...You could even open a booth at the Farmer's Market!)

You are good with the pedicure.

I used to do the "Ten" hairdo before camp week for my daughter and her friend. No need for hairbrushing and you have really cool, wild hair when you get home.

Adorable pics (could just be the subject matter).

Mothers of boys just barricade themselves in their rooms and let the boys shoot each other with nerf guns.

I love the ideas. I am going to do the stars and stripes for sure...maybe on me too.
The braids. I am braid handicapped. I was a licsensed cosmotologist for 8 years and still can not french braid. I am a white girl through and through....

on our "daily" rainy days, we watch movies or pull out the craft boxes....the kids can make some great stuff out of crap.

Your girls will remember this forever.

Thanks!
Stephanie I love your pebble magnet idea. Totally getting those supplies for a rainy day. Oh and come on down to Florida, I'll do your toes and hair!
Jenn I usually do the girls hair like that for vacation. Sure beats fighting over brushing it! And it does look cool when they take it out.
Suz I totally did my toes for 4th of July last summer too. Although it was WAY harder than doing theirs!

the hair is adorable!
I am pedicure impaired, I am saddened to admit that I take the brat with me for pedicures, but I tell her she's got other things to look forward to, like eyebrow waxing! (I know, so mean)
